We are saddened to share news of the death of Alastair Michael Putt on 12th August 2022, aged 39.
A beloved son, brother, husband, uncle, son-in-law, and friend, Alastair was widely respected for his astonishing musicianship as a composer, singer, and guitarist, and loved by all who knew him for his wit and wordplay, his loyalty and warmth, his provocative opinions and colourful trousers, his enthusiastic cooking and enjoyment of convivial evenings with friends. He will be deeply missed.
His funeral will be held at St Margaret's Church, Westminster Abbey, on Monday, 12th September 2022, at 11:00am. He was a member of the church's professional choir for ten years, and St Margaret's was in many ways his musical, cultural, and spiritual home. The funeral is open to all who knew him, and we hope to see many of you there. (Please note that we are unable to welcome children to the service.)
After the funeral, there will be a private cremation service for the family. This will be followed by a wake at The Royal Oak, Coombe Road, New Malden, from 2:30pm onwards; please join us to raise a glass in memory of Alastair and share some light refreshments.
Should you be able to join for both funeral and wake, we recommend having lunch at one of New Malden's many Korean restaurants, something Alastair always enjoyed (both eating and Korean food).
We request family flowers only, but if you would like to donate to either The Listening Place or the Royal Society of Musicians in Alastair's memory, it would be greatly appreciated. Both charities are London-based and do fantastic work: The Listening Place, which offers face-to-face support for people in mental health crisis, and The Royal Society of Musicians, which supports musicians in times of need (illness, accident, mental health, bereavement).
Over the past months, Alastair and I (Anyssa) have had meaningful assistance from both of these charities, so rest assured that your donations, should you be financially able to contribute, will help real actual people (and musicians) in crisis and the people who love them. All donations should be made through the link on this page.
We thank you all for your support and kindness during this difficult time.
Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt

I was fortunate to teach Alastair at school - I think we must have left around the same time - and sang with him in the choir for seven years. He was always a gentle and kind soul, unbelievably talented yet so modest and unassuming. He will have graced any community in which he was a part, and I was especially pleased that he had such a strong connection with my old church St Margarets Westminster. I offer my love and condolences to Alastairs family and friends at this terrible time.

Sending you all my love, Anyssa.

DAVID STACEY
Always enjoyed Racketball and Tennis games with Alastair. Loved his unconventional and fun style of play. He was a great guy and I will miss him.
Ian Moody
I always enjoyed our encounters at racketball and, more recently, tennis where his signature exclamation Good grief! would be unleashed in the event of a shot that failed to clear the net or, on occasion, escaped the confines of the court altogether. Although he claimed that his service game was not fully functional until 10am (at the earliest) he was able to call on a repertoire of unconventional shots to get out of trouble. Alastair was a lovely fellow and I will miss him enormously.
Flora Carmichael
Sending you love and strength. Xxx
