Raising money for Bloodwise in memory of Kev Severs

On Sunday 12th May 2019 a team of amateur cyclists will be cycling 100 miles around the countryside of Bedfordshire to raise money for Bloodwise. We are doing this in memory of our colleague Kev Severs, who sadly passed away in February 2018 whilst battling leukaemia. Kev was a train driver for Thameslink and all the cyclists involved in the ride worked with him. Kev took great pride in his work and was a very successful driver trainer. He always made time to listen if you had a problem or worry, his smile was infectious, and he had a funny story for every situation.

The team of cyclists taking part are:
Sean Reedman - Mark Gauge - Jerry Rollinson - Ian Johnson - Dave Farrer - John Ingham - Neil Armstrong - Andy Relton - John Glover - Dawn Stewart - Sarah Breed - John Reid - Keith Gray

Our route will start at Bedford Traincrew Depot where Kev worked with us. We will make our way through Bedford town and cycle past Kev’s house before going out onto the quieter roads in the countryside of Bedfordshire. We will make our way north and then east to Harold and then turn south to Cranfield. After this we face the challenge of Lidlington Hill before reaching the flatter part of the ride which takes us out to Biggleswade. We then turn and head back towards Bedford and come back into the town through the village of Clapham and finish at Bedford Traincrew Depot.

Whilst planning the ride we spoke to Kev’s family and asked which charity they would like us to support. They nominated Bloodwise. Bloodwise is the UK’s leading blood cancer research charity. Blood cancer is the fifth most common cancer in the UK. Bloodwise fund research to improve treatment and care for people living with all types of blood cancer, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

Bloodwise

We're the UK's leading blood cancer research charity.

Blood cancer is the fifth most common cancer in the UK. And while huge progress has been made in improving treatment since we started in 1960, it is still the third biggest cause of UK cancer deaths – taking more lives each year than breast or prostate cancer. Even for those who survive, the long-term effects of treatment can be devastating.

What we do

Everything we do is focussed on improving the lives of everyone affected by blood cancer, the fifth most common cancer in the UK. We want to bring forward the day when every single person affected by blood cancer is able to live a full life.

Bloodwise is a registered charity in England & Wales 216032.
